The best rock album of the decade. The Strokes take their punk-esque rhythms, construct them differently, add intelligence to them, keep the beat as steady as a rock and back it all with low-production quality to make one of my all time favorite rock albums. It's grungy while being sophisticated, it's beautiful while being in your face, it's heartfelt while remaining rock and roll. This album is legit.

5. Girl Talk - Night Ripper

Girl Talk revolutionized musik.
1973 - Edgar Winter Group's song "Frankenstein" conatins take offs from popular songs and melodies on purpose. It was the first kind of sampling song and it was done with all instruments. An unheard of idea.
1977 - Afrika Bambaataa creates the idea of bringing turntablists together in a peaceful fashion. The first wide acceptance and use of DJs (who use all samples) in a corporation which gained a significant amount of press in the musik scene. An unheard of idea.
1996 - DJ Shadow puts out Endtroducing..., hands down the best turntablist album of all time. Cutting, beat juggling, mixing, doing things on a turntable that put every DJ to shame. A perfection of an art.
2004 - Greg Gillis of Girl Talk puts out Unstoppable, an album that is entirely mash ups and not just mash ups. Several songs in one collective song.
2006 - Girl Talk perfects his art with Night Ripper, blowing minds left and right.
This is the final frontier of musik and Girl Talk does it best.

Maybe it's because this is the first Iron And Wine album I really paid attention to that makes me love it so much, maybe it's because Sam Beam is a genius, maybe, and by maybe, I mean 100% yes, maybe it's both. Our Endless Numbered Days was the first well produced Iron & Wine album and while it is an improvement from his lo-fi recordings and does indeed help, Sam could be playing in a rainstorm and I be unable to hear him and it would still sound more beautiful than I can imagine. If you like folk musik then you obviously already know Iron & Wine, but if for some reason you don't, give them a fair chance. Realize the complexity of the instruments and the conceivability of the lyrics.

The accompanying musik videos are just as captivating as the songs themselves and set this album apart from the rest.

This is Bloc Party's best album. It's leaps and bound better than anything they've touched since and I don't even count their other albums as musik in comparison to this masterpiece. "Silent Alarm" holds its own in a rock battle and could even delve into the indie world and still be accepted. Regardless of its "scene," "Silent Alarm" blows minds with every progressing song. If you like musik, you'll like this album.

Disregarding that this fact is hip, catchy, and one of a kind, let's examine the fact that this is the concept album return of Gorillaz which developed its own ballet - WHICH I SAW! Oh yes, "Demon Days" has everything you want: rap, electronica, ridiculous musik videos. If you know the Gorillaz, and you like the Gorillaz, you'll like this album. If you want to give it a shot, I know it's not for everyone, but it's worth listening to. Seriously.

Most kids have heard the radio hit "Crazy" but those who took the time to appreciate this album as a whole were well treated to a masterpiece. If you don't already cherish this album, start now.

I know I praised Lupe for being my favorite consistent hip hop artist earlier this list but Common is on another level. Every song is a distinct hit and his rhymes are a lot smarter on this album than Lupe's. Teaming up with The Last Poets, making a colab appearance on The Chapelle Show with Kanye, and turning a court room scandal into a slow riding groove, that's amazing. Common isn't as much fun as other hip hop on this list but his use of soul backing tracks and his intelligence of syncopation and lyrics turn other rappers head over heels.

Ben Gibbard of Death Cab and Jimmy Tamborello of Dntel combine to make one of the best pop/electronic bands of all time. I have yet to meet someone who doesn't like at least one song off of this album. It flows well, each song is distinct and catchy in its own way be it musically or lyrically, and the smooth sound of Gibbard's voice is a pleasantly familiar one. If you haven't already heard this album, buy it now.

48. Edison Glass - A Burn Or A Shiver

Edison Glass went to college with my brother so I've known about them for a while. Every time I listen to them I just am amazed at how talented every member of the band is. Then they put out "A Burn Or A Shiver," their first legitimately, studio produced album. Make sure you listen to this album a couple of times in a row so you can catch every detail of every song. The guitar duos play off of each other better than an any straight up rock band I've ever heard, the drummer is steady and talented, the bassist's tones are perfection, the lyrics are great and the vocal melodies keep this rock album under wraps, making it accessible to anyone who gives it a shot. This album is perfect.

Muse is one of the best consistent rock bands of all time. Each album is completely different in production and instrument focus but each is incredible in its own way. If you don't respect Muse then you don't respect rock.

The transition using pop melodies and, while elementary, down right catchy lyrics is masterful. If you don't like this album I will think less of you.

42. Coheed And Cambria - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 1: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness

Okay. I get it. You guys think Coheed is overrated. Well you're wrong. As far as a rock album goes, this one is the most accessible to both radio kids and those with taste (us). It leads us through sagas of solos, orchestral backing and chorus vocals. This album is epic in proportion and should be valued. If you can't appreciate one of the best, in-your-face rock albums of the past 10 years then you need to take a step back and adjust your attitude. In Keeping Of Silent Earth III is my personal favorite by Coheed but this album opened the public to Coheed so I respect it. I'm right. You're wrong. Deal with it.

41. Sufjan Stevens - Come On Feel The Illinoise

It's pronounced "soof-yawn," not "suf-jan." There, cleared that up.
Sufjan has quite the following. People go crazy over every little thing he does. This is interesting to me since 2 of his albums are downright awful - A Sun Came & Enjoy Your Rabbit. But alas, he does have quite a collection of albums that never cease to amaze me. Illinoise is obviously on this list. His most popular album and I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't like him. He kept true to his orchestral/folk style and created a pop connection that everyone loves. This album has it's hits for sure but every track flows well into the next while never loosing sight of his goal: make Illinoise beautiful by song. And that he does. Thank you Sufjan. You have done it again.

Coke Samples In Hip Hop Are Il

Alright so here it goes. I respect Kanye as a producer. I like his first two albums. I think Graduation was all for the money and 808 and the CrapTastics isn't even musik.
However
Learning that Kanye knows the art of sampling and does it well makes me rethink my position on him. I love it when rappers sample songs; hence the reason I love 80s and 90s hip hop. Check this out and let me know what you think.

If Kanye did a show with a DJ and all records and used the legit, non-altered samples I would buy everyone of his records.

Not sampling like this crap: I'll Be Missing You - P-Diddy. All that is is Combs rapping over an already good song.

10. Priests And Paramedics - Pedro The Lion
There is no band with simpler musikal construction than Pedro The Lion. They are the epitome of how the simple is what makes a great song. David Bazan's voice isn't all that great but his lyrics are memorable and poetic. Any one of their songs would have made my top ten but I chose this song because it's the first Pedro song that I ever heard with my brother. I love this band for what they represent in musik and I love this band.

9. Electric Feel - MGMT
Every hipster, indie kid, alternative, whatever, knows this song. It's catchy. It's 5 chords with a melody that makes everyone sing much higher than their range allows - with no shame. It was the best song of 2008 and it's still around more than a year and half later (since the digital release was in 2007). There are plenty of remixes, covers and terrible bar guitarists trying to recreate the danceability or electro-catchiness but nothing beats the original. Shock me like an electric eel.

8. Knife - Grizzly Bear

This is all the song consists of. A basic guitar, some sustain, a distant drum and some choral work. It's so basic but so beautiful. You love someone. You tell them. They lie again to get around talking about it. They stab you in the back. Every failed crush has been summed up in 6 lines. Every failed crush can be fixed with this song on repeat.

7. Lion's Mane - Iron & Wine
In reality, I could put Iron & Wine as all 150 songs on this list. They are in my top 3 favorite bands of all time. Sam is complex yet accessible. I've heard people say that they love listening to Iron & Wine as they go to sleep because of the low production quality and the relaxing construction of the song and I've heard people say that they get too excited to sleep every time they listen to ole' Sam pluck the guitar. This song is a prime example of the capabilities and of the style of Iron & Wine and if you don't like this song you probably won't like Iron & Wine. If you don't like Iron & Wine then you probably aren't my friend.

6. One More Time - Daft Punk
Daft. Punk. Daft. Punk. Daft. Punk. "Hey, let's make dance musik accessible to everyone who listens to our masterpieces." This has to be what Daft Punk was saying whenever they released Discovery. Homework is great, don't get me wrong. I love it. It's grungy, it's old school, it's super legit. Discovery - that's a flawless album. Starting out with a song about partying and ending with a 10 minute trance-esque song, this album is Daft Punk's brightest star. This is the first track on the album. This song should be played at every dance party. Ever.

5. A Song For Christine - Anathallo
Anathallo is so underrated. They don't perform this song anymore due to changed band members since its recording but this is just one of many examples I could have chosen to show their expertise in all things musik. I've seen these guys several times and each experience has been different. The first time in a local Florence venue called The Lower Room these guys were beating on lead pipes and slamming shoes around to keep the tempo for the trombones to blare in our faces while the guitar tones just made my ears cry with joy. They get the crowd involved and they want to learn why you like musik. They are a great example of people who are beyond skill, who are people too. Anathallo creates musik. Anathallo creates love. Please, please get their albums. I don't know why these guys are more popular than Arcade Fire or MGMT because they are definitely on a higher caliber of expertise and melody.

4. Lower Your Eyelids To Die With The Sun - M83
A 10 minute song to end a flawless album from M83. This is a great representation of what M83 does well: build ups and breakdowns, forever sustained synths and epic drums. This makes a great electronic band. This is the most epic song of the past decade. If you've seen this video you can't help but imagine it every time you embark on listening to this song. Don't hurry this song. Don't listen to it in pieces. Start this song. Drive at night. Roll down your windows. Feel alive. Repeat when necessary.

3. Hey Ya! - OutKast
OutKast knows a thing or two about making a good song. The Love Below/Speakerboxxx is one of the best hip hop/rap albums of all time and it's just that. Rap AND hip hop. Wait, are you saying that there is a hip hop CD that came out AFTER 1997!?!? Yes. OutKast done it real well. The most loved hip hop/rap song of the past decade. Everyone knows it. Everyone sings it. Everyone loves it. Its great. It's so freaking great. This is modern hip hop. I wish it hadn't died already.

2. Pyramid Song - Radiohead
I think we all knew that Radiohead would be in the top 10. I think we all know why. Besides their greatness and expertise at mastering strings, synth, reverb, bass, drums, beats, choruses, melodies, lyrics and everything else musikal, this was the first Radiohead song I ever heard. It means so much to me. It was a pivotal moment in musik. It was a pivotal moment in life.

1. Play Your Part (Pt. 1) - Girl Talk
Lost of people may disagree with this choice but let me justify myself. 1973 - Edgar Winter Group's song "Frankenstein" conatins take offs from popular songs and melodies on purpose. It was the first kind of sampling song and it was done with all instruments. An unheard of idea. 1977 - Afrika Bambaataa creates the idea of bringing turntablists together in a peaceful fashion. The first wide acceptance and use of DJs (who use all samples) in a corporation which gained a significant amount of press in the musik scene. An unheard of idea. 1996 - DJ Shadow puts out Endtroducing..., hands down the best turntablist album of all time. Cutting, beat juggling, mixing, doing things on a turntable that put every DJ to shame. A perfection of an art. 2004 - Greg Gillis of Girl Talk puts out Unstoppable, an album that is entirely mash ups and not just mash ups. Several songs in one collective song. 2006 - Girl Talk perfects his art with Night Ripper, blowing minds left and right. 2008 - Girl Talk puts out the best song of the decade.
There is nothing more than can be done with musik.
This is the final frontier of musik and Girl Talk does it best.

25. This Celluloid Dream- A.F.I.
A.F.I. is a heavy emo rock band done right. It's dramatic and the production is low which means that unlike their "Decemberunderground" album (which was so heavily produced, anyone could make that album), this is an album that only A.F.I. can make. Their sounds and those screams mark what scene musik should have stuck with.

24. D.A.N.C.E. - Justice
The best dance artist since Daft Punk, Justice took the world by storm with their electronic pop sensibility. It's well produced, no beat is wasted and every lyrics is just as fun as the dance moves you are pulling.

23. Us - Regina Spektor
Regina Spektor could write a love song for me any day. She's so adorable and so talented. She is a genuine musician and person. This song is by far her best. Granted as a whole, the Begin To Hope album is her best full album, but this song just captures me heart every time I hear it.

22. My Doorbell - The White Stripes
The White Stripes make me jealous. Yes I want to make ridiculous musik with my wife all day, thank you for rubbing it in.

21. Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You) [ft. OutKast] - UGK
The illest intro ever. Every rapper takes their verse to new heights while the DJ just blows us away with a beat that makes us bob our heads - guaranteed. Then he drops it out! DANG! This song is so good.

20. Welcome Home - Coheed And Cambria
The hardest rocking song of the decade. The solo is imitated by every guitarist, air or real, the drums are epic and the bass is fast and choppy. The lyrics, especially the finale chorus just puts this rock song over the top. It's epic, to say the least.

19. Blood Bank - Bon Iver
Low-fi, hi-quality. Bon Iver blows our mind again with a 4 song EP in which every song, while independent, flows together so well. Mind exploded. Done.

18. We Will Become Silhouettes - The Postal Service
I don't know one person who listens to The Postal Service who doesn't want 1) a new CD and 2) a concert.

17. Chinese Translation - M. Ward
A prime example of M. Ward's talent on the guitar while keeping us attached and singing along. This is a true sign of talent.

16. What You Know? - T.I.
The best modern rap song of the past decade. Easy. T.I. is good. I don't care what you guys say. Let's hear you spit something sicker that this. "Loaded 44s on the low where the cheese at, Fresh off the jet to the Jects where the G's at". Translation: loaded guns hidden in our house in case of emergency. Quickly, I get off of the jets and head into the projects where my real brothers are. That.is.sick.
Better get your Nikes brah.

15. After The Curtain - Beirut
I don't know what it is but I just love this song. It's so simple and it's probably what Bibio listened to when they wrote Lovers' Carvings. Something about when he drops it, then brings it back in, and the crowd is there. It just reminds me of the fact that even though I try and make musik there are always people steps ahead.

14. Title And Registration - Death Cab For Cutie
Simple beat. Simple guitar. Simple lyrics. I don't know one person whose musik taste that I respect who doesn't like this song.

13. Little Weapon [ft. Bishop G & Nikki Jean] - Lupe Fiasco
Lupe writes about guns. Lupe writes about turmoil. Lupe writes about the ish that's real and uses a snare drive that reminds us high school, allowing us to connect to the kids mentioned in this song. I don't care what you guys think, this song is amazing. One of the best rap songs of all time.

12. We Belong Together - Mariah Carey
Okay. I get it. You guys don't like Mariah Carey. Name one pop song that is better written or better sung than this one. Eh? Nothing? Oh, it looks like you like Mariah Carey too. Hmmm...

11. Kid A - Radiohead
Radiohead is in the top 3 bands of the past decade. Nothing of a higher caliber of production, strings, synth or vocal range is out there. Radiohead.is.king.

Jay-Z is above women. Duh. Actually, this song is all pop. It's Jay-Z telling us how much better he is than us but how he actually wants a woman to love. But he's still a G.

49. Galang - M.I.A.
M.I.A. began here. Before Slumdog Millionare, before Paper Planes on MTV, before publicity, M.I.A. was a real hip hop artist. On a stage with a DJ just spitting whatever the heck she wanted. Now she's semi-sold out. I mean, she did a song with Kanye. Let's remember the goodness.

48. King Of The Rodeo - Kings Of Leon
This is the best example of indie rock gone great. I hate to use the term indie. In fact, you may have noticed that I've been avoiding it in this series but it's very difficult to describe this song as anything but straight up indie rock. 46. Oh Detroit, Lift Up Your Weary Head! (Rebuild! Restore! Reconsider!) - Sufjan Stevens
Fast paced. Intricately orchestrated. Memorable and beautiful. This is an example of the variety of Sufjan's folk side.

45. New Slang - The Shins
This song turned me onto Garden State. Enough said.

44. Reptilia - The Strokes
Before I took up guitar I had my hand at bass. This was the first song I ever learned on bass. It really helped me examine the different levels of a song.

43. Either Way - Wilco
I don't know much about Wilco but I know that this song, and album, is the most optimistic love song of the past decade. So optimistic, it's sad. It's also the opening track to Wilco's best album which exemplifies the beginning of a grand album listening.

42. Ms. Jackson - OutKast
No matter what stage I was in, no matter who I was listening to, no matter who I loved, Ms. Jackson was always there. This song has been on the air waves and on my mix cds for the past 9 years. I honestly can't say I've ever met anyone who hasn't heard this song who was under 25.

41. Mornings Eleven - The Magic Numbers
A great example of what should be played on the radio. What quality musik should sound like.

40. Gobbledigook- Sigur Rós
I've met some new friends here at USC. One of which is named Mike Roberts. Mike showed me a video to this video and said, "It's just the band beating on drums." That may be Mike, but it's an effing great beat and a melody that makes an epic experimental song. Boom. Roasted.

39. Young Folks [ft. Victoria Bergsman] - Peter Bjorn And John
Great pop song... WITH WHISTLING! "Pullin' an Avie."

38. Chicago - Sufjan Stevens
Sufjan's most popular and most cinematically used song reminds us of Little Miss Sunshine and of Sufjan's whole goal of his CD: to allow us to connect with his set state.

37. The Zookeeper's Boy - Mew
Mew has an interesting title with me. They are the best underrated modern rock band. Not to say that they are the best modern rock band, no. They are the best modern rock band that no one knows about.

36. Hide And Seek - Imogen Heap
Only a vocoder. Amazing.

35. Roscoe - Midlake
Disregarding the lyrics, the dramatically memorable tone of the guitar or how amazing the rest of this album is: all I care about is that this song connected me with Austin Crane.

34. Emily - Joanna Newsom
12 minutes never felt so right, so dramatic and so quietly melodic.

33. Disorganized Fun - Ronald Jenkees
Ronald stands for a lot of things. He sounds like early edIT which is amazing enough since edIT is the best electronic hip hop artist of all time. I'm not sure if anything is wrong with Ronald Jenkees but if you hear this song you could never think it was possible. Lemme give you a little background: Ronald is a meme. He's famous only due to his massive amounts of views on YouTube. When he realized that people enjoyed watching him, Ronald decided to show the world his musik. This is the title track off of his 2nd produced album. Ronald went viral. He gives hope to all wannabe artists on YouTube.

32. Time Is Running Out - Muse
Muse rocks. This is probably the best rock single of the past decade. It presented a new era of Muse. They have always been very theatrical and over the top but this song marked the beginning of the rock of Muse.

31. John Wayne Gacy, Jr. - Sufjan Stevens
Sufjan explores Illinois' most hated secret. He does it well.

30. Me And Mia - Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
Ted Leo is underrated. Ted Leo is a great pop/rock artist. Ted Leo is what you need to listen to.

29. Crazy - Gnarls Barkley
Danger Mouse makea a genuine 2000s hip hop beat. Cee-lo hits a melody over it. That's a winning combination.

28. Hurt (Nine Inch Nails Cover) - Johnny Cash
Anyone who makes a Nine Inch Nails song sound good is.... wait. Johnny Cash? Johnny CASH made this song sound good? Oh. my. gosh.

27. I Thought I Saw Your Face Today - She & Him
M. Ward is a brilliant guitarist. Zooey Dechanel has a beautiful voice. This song has lyrics that we all wish we'd written.

26. Battling Go-Go Yubari In Downtown L.A. - edIT
I said it before, I'll say it again. edIT is the best electronic hip hop beat maker of all time. Just listen to that. If rappers would use this there would be a whole 'nother scene out there of quality modern rap. Please? Anyone?

75. Dancin' In The Moonlight (King Harvest Cover) - Toploader
This is a modern version of a classic soul song and it's done with the equal amount of danceability. That is impressive. Everything about this song makes me want to boogie.

74. Flashing Lights [ft. Dwele] - Kanye West
Kanye is one of the most conceited musicians of all time. He and John Mayer should battle. Anyways, this is by far the best track off of Kanye's Graduation which, despite being my least favorite by him (since I don't view 808s & The Heartbreaks as a real album or real musik), it has my favorite song by him. This song is all about him and while that is the very essence of his existence, this song does it with tact. Kanye knows he's writing about himself here and he takes every liberty in making that known: example, changing the chorus from "you" to "I" at the end of the song and referring to himself as a caesar. This song is Kanye. This song is great. Wait... that's impossible.

73. The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living - The Streets
Leaps.and.bounds.better.than.America. This song describes the "tough" life of a musician. Awww, poor baby.

72. 1 2 3 4 - Feist
A pop song with heavy folk roots that makes everyone in the crowd want to sing back up vocals and clap along. Feist brings together all lovers of good musik with this song, simply by counting. That's impressive.

71. Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Karen O is pretty much out of her mind but she couldn't have been more in tune with the musikal universe when she wrote this song. The tremolo guitar is easily recognizable, the bass is driving and surrounding and the drums are complex yet accessible. I love it when a drummer takes his beat to the next level and doesn't just follow the standard 4/4 rock beat. The added reverb on the vocals just puts it over the top. Beautiful song.

70. The Scientist - Coldplay
The first Coldplay song I ever heard. It's simple both lyrically and melodically but that's the thing about pop musik: sure, maybe you could have written that song... but you didn't. Coldplay did it first. Coldplay did it right.

69. Such Great Heights (The Postal Service Cover) - Iron & Wine
This is one of my favorite songs of all time and the fact that it's a cover of an electronic song just makes it all the more respectable. Also, Sam Beam's beard is lovely.

68. Falling Slowly - Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová (The Swell Season)
If you haven't seen Once then you don't understand the full capacity at which this song can touch you.

67. Do You Realize?? - The Flaming Lips
This is the first time The Flaming Lips were accessible to the public. They had a strong cult following but before "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots" it was all pretty out there. This song was the first The Flaming Lips song I heard and it blew me away. It's distorted love with lyrics that are romantic and tragic. That's pop musik in the form of Art Rock.

66. Sleepyhead - Passion Pit
Danceability - 10. Groove - 9. Lyrics - can't understand but, melody of lyrics - 10. Tone - 9. Love for this song - 10. Love for all things Passion Pit - 9. Listen.to.this.song.now.

This post-punk rock band has a British singer. Grunge and the UK, what else do you want?

64. Breathe Me - Sia
Starts out as a simple piano expression of existence, introduces the rest of the band to back up her search, it all drops out and then, in a powerful flash: the answer. One of, if not the best constructed pop breakdowns of the decade.

63. Jolene - Ray LaMontagne
Dolly Parton wrote this song. Ray LaMontagne decided to make it great. "How does he just open his mouth and make that noise of a voice? Unbelievable." - Seth

62. I'd Rather Dance With You - Kings Of Convenience
A great representation of Riot On An Empty Streets and what Kings Of Convenience is capable of. A song with a heavy string melody that makes you want to dance with someone. Can't say you hear that too often.

61. Faithful [ft. John Legend & Bilal] - Common
Common raps about respecting women. Common raps about respecting women. Common raps about respecting women. Common raps about respecting women and he does it well.

60. Blood Clots And Black Holes - Thrice
The best NuMetal song ever written. Begin moshing..... now. Then stop and singalong. Then mosh. Then headbang. Then sing. METAL! \m/

59. Time Flies - Lykke Li
Lykke Li is amazing but she is a little peculiar at times. This song makes the most musikal sense over anything else on the album. Hence it's place here.

58. The Dull Flame Of Desire [ft. Antony Hegarty] - Björk
Björk and Antony. Doing an epic song. That lasts 7 minutes. With horns. And a drum outro. Oh. My. Gosh.

57. Babylon Is Falling - Slightly Stoopid
Reggae died with Bob Marly. Slightly Stoopid is the best current homage and tribute to the beauty of reggae. The beat is classic reggae, the guitar is picked which makes it more modern but there is your typical reggae-whatever drum in between beats to remind you of its intentions. I know that nothing will ever do what The Wailers did but if you are looking for what reggae is now-a-days, this is your best song to chillax to.

56. Ignition (Remix) - R. Kelly
This is the most non-remix remix I've ever heard but you can call this whatever you want. These lyrics are awesome, that beat is very classic R. Kelly and the guitar and back up sex guitar riff just backs up lyrics like "take my key and stick it in the ignition" and "fellas to my left, honeys on my right, bring them both together you got jukeing all night." Well play Mr .Kelly.

55. Clint Eastwood - Gorillaz
Every single teenager knows this song. Every single kid with brains knows its amazing. It's hip hop, it's rap, it's Gorillaz. It's everything you want in an accessible rap song. Also, sunshine in a bag means liquor.

54. Heartbeats - The Knife
Turn your speakers up one volume past maximum and let the bass burst your eardrums. Believe me, it's worth it.

53. The City - Milosh
This song influenced me more than any other song on this list. It was the first time I'd ever heard electronic musik that wasn't dance and/or bass heavy. It was mind blowing. It opened so many doors for me.

52. Waiting On The World To Change - John Mayer
"Continuum" is a flawless album and this was the radio hit. How can this not make the list?

51. Heartbeats (The Knife Cover) - José González
So I hope all of you listened and fell in love with Heartbeats by The Knife because José is about to blow you mind. This is a complex acoustic cover of that "bass heavy" dance song. Doing so makes us examine the lyrics closer, realizing the analogies of sex and the romantic tendencies behind such blatant lyrics. This song is love.

100. Elephant Gun - Beirut
The best American folk band I've ever heard, Beirut varies from heavy strings to heavy horns to heavy synths. This song is constructed with horns and a strong percussion base. The vocals are in perfect harmony with the feel of the song and we feel as if we're listening to another culture. That's what Beirut does best. This is a great example of it

99. Habeas Corpus - The Agony Scene
A perfect example of what hard core should be like: structure, heavy, pounding double bass, muddy and fast guitar solo, loud screaming which makes even the happiest of people want to murder a puppy. Let's just examine the drums in this song. They are not overpowering in the least bit but have a consistent presence with the driving cymbal work and syncopated and double bass work. You would be safe in saying that the drums are the main instrument in this song. The guitar is, while intense, very basic and the screams are nothing we haven't heard before. Listen to this song and appreciate it for what it is.

98. The Golden Age - Beck
Beck's masterpiece. The most logical stuff he did was off of Sea Change and what better song to represent that album than The Golden Age? It's melodic, relaxing, memorable and a step in the sane direction for Beck. I wish he'd stuck with this work.

97. Feel Good Inc. [ft. De La Soul] - Gorillaz
Gorillaz are phenomenal and anyone who disagrees is flat out wrong (unless you're talking about their Lakita Come Home album. What is that crap?) This is a perfect example of the genius of Gorillaz and with the classic animated musik video to accompany it, what is not to love? Oh, how about we add one of the best legit hip hop bands of all time on a verses or two? Done. De La Soul's appearance on this song just makes the song all the more catchy and all the better. This song is funky. Believe it. Live it. Do it.

96. The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
This Pop/Punk Rock songs makes for one of the best popular air band songs of the past decade. The lyrics are constantly mistaken but that never keeps anyone from singing their own version of the chorus. This is a simply catchy song and you should approach it in the sort.

95. I Changed My Mind [ft. Kanye West] - Keyshia Cole
This is what modern Pop/R&B should sound like. Typical lyrics, looped claps, and a beautiful black lady singing her heart about how, once again, she's been hurt; the only way she can deal with it? Write a song and tear my heart out with it.

94. Today - Zero 7
José González, the wondrous guitarist, is in this band. Think of his work, synthesized and poppy-er and you've got Zero 7. This is a great movie song and the off beat percussion just makes you want to shake your hips a little bit. Not too much since this is a rather silent song, but just enough to keep you coming back. And when the chorus comes back with "Today" and the musik picks up a little, backed with harmonious vocalists - it's just hard to beat that.

93, Gotta Have You - The Weepies
Pop/Folk about longing for love. Soft, intimate, beautiful and sing-a-long worthy. This is The Weepies greatest song, hands down. "No amount of coffee, no amount of cryin', no amount of whisky, no amount of wine. No, no, no, no, no, nothing else will do, I gotta have you, I gotta have you." That's awesome.

92. Mushaboom - Feist
A prime example of the pop sensibility of Feist. So basic, Leslie Feist's voice is the predominate factor in this song until the chorus picks up and the claps take over, making the listeners want to clap as well. I love that. I love it when a song makes me want to clap along with it. Do I feel silly doing it? Yes. Does that stop me? Never. Also, this song has one of my favorite lines of all time. No, not the made up chorus word "mushaboom", but when she says, "I got a man to stick it out, And make a home from a rented house oh, And we'll collect the moments one by one, I guess that's how the future's done oh." That's beautiful.

91. 54 Cymru Beats - Aphex Twin
Aphex Twin is the most complex electronic artist of all time. Hands down. What is he doing? Granted, his beats are heavily distorted and he uses sick breaks to throw us off but I've never heard anything like this. At least nothing else that I liked. It's hard to listen to but I always want more. That's talent.

90. Cute Without The "E" (Cut From The Team) - Taking Back Sunday
The song that defined a posing scene. This is pop/punk, this is middle school, this is every insecurity I ever felt. Taking Back Sunday, along with Thursday and Brand New, were the only bands I listened to for a long time. This song exemplifies everything I want; death, love, acceptance, rebellion, and a sweet break down.

89. Without Me - Eminem
I don't care if you guys don't like Eminem - I do. He's good. He made rap musik for white people. It's poppy yet still offensive. His lyrics torture the minds of school principals while inspire the rebellious white kid and that's the way he wants it. Eminem knows exactly what he's doing. That's genius. Effing genius.

88. Sleeper 1972 - Manchester Orchestra
Manchester Orchestra's best song is also the song that worst example of their musik. This song is very soft, very delicate. You will feel something listening to this song. Sometimes, we just need to put on a long, slow song and examine ourselves. This is a great song to practice that.

87. At Your Funeral - Saves The Day
Shock lyrics. Terrifying. Basic rock. Done right. Back up, repeated vocals. "You and I." Sing-a-long. Loudly.

86. Last Night - The Strokes
The Strokes are the garage band you wanted to be in all of high school. You can imagine your best rocker friends being The Strokes and I'm sure that the band would totally be okay with that. They are just here to make musik and present a good time. That's exactly what this song does. The lyrics are all things we've thought before and the solo is so basic: it's a great rock song.

85. Son Of Sam - Elliott Smith
Elliott Smith is one of the saddest musicians I've ever heard. He is also one of the best. His musik is the antithesis of modern pop musik but presents some of the catchiest and memorable songs I've ever heard. His lyrics are about death, nonacceptance and fear. His melodies are great.

84. To Build A Home [ft. Patrick Watson] - The Cinematic Orchestra
Slowly built, well played, epic chorus within the confounds of the song. Twice.

83. Sowing Season - Brand New
I dare you to find a song that makes you want to yell more than this one. Brand New has still got it, and what they got. Brother, it's a boomin.

82. Brothers On A Hotel Bed - Death Cab For Cutie
Complex for Ben Gibbard, intimate, about a new kind of love and the best song off of Death Cab's most popular album. Another song driven by the drums and voice, this really makes you appreciate the soft notes played.

81. Sun & Ice - The Field
The only trance band you ever need to listen to. Hands down. Get this album and appreciate it now.

80. California - Phantom Planet
Maybe it's because I love The O.C. (even the 4th season, so sue me), maybe it's because this is just a down right awesome pop/rock song that everyone can enjoy. This is a song that brings scenes together in a joyous, welt built chorus.

79. Ch-Check It Out - Beastie Boys
Just.listen.to.that.beat. Beastie Boys have done it again. Props, dog.

78. Good To Sea - Pinback
"It's good to sea you, it's good to sea you go." The way the bass and the guitar work together on this song is well worthy of respect. This is one of the best indie rock songs I've ever heard and it's also one of the softest.

77. So Far To Go [ft. Common & D'Angelo] - J Dilla
If you don't respect J Dilla then we got a problem.

76. Kick, Push - Lupe Fiasco
In my top three all time favorite rappers, Lupe Fiasco hardly ever raps about "bitches and hoes, money fo' show". He's real. He's for all ethnicities. He made a rap song that my dad likes - Kick, Push. The use of horns basically make this song for me. The groove of this song coinciding with the lyrics about coasting is just perfect. One of the best matches I've ever heard.

Starting college off right, I went to a CRAZY party which consisted of pizza, chips AND A CAKE! A WHOLE. FREAKING. CAKE. Also, there were lots of sodas.
